Lecture : Overseas China Towns and Streets in the Sea Area of Asia
Guest Speaker : Ismida Hideo (History of Architecture, Toyohashi University of Technology and Science)

The object of Professor Ismida's lecture are the China towns along the seaport cities of Asia in the colonial times. According to him, the internal structure of the China towns and streets in the colonial cities of South-east Asia have many similarities: The main street and communities of China town are located in the middle of the land god's shrine and the temple of Majo, the Buddhist Goddess of seaman and traders. He shows a variety of Chinese towns and streets in many seaport cities such as Batavia, Singapore, Penang, Sonkla, Hoian and Fuzhou.
