The International Maritime Affairs Research Institute, established by the Korea Maritime University, was established in May 2000, incorporating the Marine Research Institute (established in 1982), the Marine Culture Research Institute (established in 1992), and the Institute of Social Science (established in 1996).
Since then, the Korea Maritime University has designated the International Maritime Affairs Research Institute as a center research institute in the field of humanities and social sciences in accordance with the mid- and long-term development plan of marine specialization. In order to excel the research activities in the humanities and social sciences related to maritime, (KRW 50 million per year). The institute has systematically carried out research related to international maritime issues such as maritime city culture, port / shipping, and marine territory policy.
The Institute for International Maritime Affairs at the Korea Maritime University promotes research activities in the field of humanities and social sciences related to the ocean, and conducts interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary researches with other disciplines and the community through the cooperation of industry, academia, Was established in May 2000 with the aim of establishing policies and providing information.
In March 2008, the Korea Maritime University decided to intensively support the International Maritime Affairs Research Institute to send the discourse of the 21st century maritime age to the world. Accordingly, the purpose of the institute has been expanded to marine research on mentality based on the relationship between the research results of the previous years and the results of the physical ocean research, and the emphasis was placed on a global hub research institute that sends out research results of domestic and overseas maritime city cultural negotiations.
