Prof. Bae has presented several important and interesting points on the study of Shanghai in this colloquium. Among others, the following three points have contributed a lot to the understanding of Shanghai as a subject of research: the positioning of Shanghai in the context of the Chinese Modern History; the recent research trend on Shanghai in Korea, China and Japan as well as in the West; a new perspective for the interactive history of Busan-Shanghai.
