Korea Maritime University's Institute of International Maritime Affairs (Director Chung Moon-soo) held a session titled "An Analysis of the Case of the Seaport City: Dandong's Historical Formation and Cultural Interactions" in Sea Humanities Conference-The Value of the Sea, Historical Rediscovery and Direction of the Marine Industry" (hosted by Pukyong National University CORE Project Group, Korea Maritime Tourism Association, and Local Research Society) on February 7.


Since 2012, Institute of International Maritime Affairs(IMA), which has been carrying out an international joint research called "Hwanhwanghae Area and Seaport City" involving researchers from Korea, China, and Japan, has been studying human and material movement and social transformation in Qingdao, Dalian, and Dandong.


This conference analyzes the historical formation process of Dandong, where modern and contemporary Northeast Asian relations are concentrated, and socio-cultural interactions and transformation among them, and examines the current status and prospects.


The conference was sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, co-hosted by the Pukyong National University Humanities Enhancement (CORE) Project Group, the Korea Maritime Tourism Association, and the International Regional Studies Institute.


Through this academic conference, which consists of several conferences and research institutes, the formation of a research network centered on Busan, the marine capital, was achieved. 

Through enthusiastic presentations and discussions at the conference, the direction of marine humanities in the future was presented and by establishing a plan for the development of the marine industry and the development of marine global human resources, the leap forward and developmental future of Busan, the marine capital, were presented.
